We have a range of practical opportunities for people to get involved in volunteering at Skelton Grange - including wildlife surveys, training events and practical volunteer days.

Please see below for details and get in touch if you need any more information. We welcome new volunteers at all times, so please come along, but please get in touch to let us know if you're planning to come along to any of the events (there's a short registration form at the bottom of this page).

All events take place at Skelton Grange Environment Centre unless specified otherwise below.

Under 18s must be accompanied by an adult for all events.

January Hedgelaying week - Tues 13th, Wed 14th, Thurs 15th January

A introduction to hedgelaying - which is a great chance to try a traditional practical skill. No experience necessary - come along for one day or for more!

  • Please arrive from 9:30am for cup of tea ready for a 10:00am start.
  • Sessions run until 3:00pm.
  • Tea, coffee and biscuits will be provided but please bring a packed lunch. Wear old clothes that you don't mind getting mucky, and dress for the weather - its cold out there!

Regular Friday Volunteering - The Green Team

Join the Green Team at Skelton Grange Environment Centre - regular opportunities for everyone to come along and help out with some practical tasks on our site. You don't need any experience, just enthusiasm!

  • Please arrive from 9:30am for cup of tea ready for a 10:00am start.
  • Generally sessions run until 3:30pm unless advertised otherwise.
  • Tea, coffee and biscuits will be provided but please bring a packed lunch. Wear old clothes that you don't mind getting mucky, and dress for the weather.

The Green Team - upcoming sessions and details

Every Friday 9:30 - 3:30 rain or shine! We will be running a range of activities preparing the site and veg garden for its autumn and winter season, including pond clearance, woodland management and looking after the paths and structures on the site. More information soon, and do call us if you want more detail :)

Friday 9th January 9:30am - 3:30pm Hedgelaying and woodland management

A new year, and a new start on our winter woodland work! Our ongoing programme of winter woodland management will start again, along with carrying on with laying one of our boundary hedges - its a great chance for an intro to the traditional art of hedgelaying!

A new year, and a new start on our winter woodland work! Our ongoing programme of winter woodland management will start again, along with carrying on with laying one of our boundary hedges. We are also doing some work to improve our accessible dipping pond.
