Volunteering Events

You are here

We have a range of practical opportunities for people to get involved in volunteering at Skelton Grange - including wildlife surveys, training events and practical volunteer days.

Please see below for details and get in touch if you need any more information. We welcome new volunteers at all times, so please come along, but please get in touch to let us know if you're planning to come along to any of the events (there's a short registration form at the bottom of this page).

All events take place at Skelton Grange Environment Centre unless specified otherwise below.

Under 18s must be accompanied by an adult for all events.

Directions to the centre can be found here.

Evening Amphibian Surveys

A chance head out by torchlight to help with the annual amphibian surveys on our 5 ponds! Three surveys are planned to coincide with the breeding seasons of frogs, toads and newts. Wrap up warm and bring a good torch if you have one. Please register your interest in these volunteering events using the form at the bottom of this page!

Tuesday 10th March 6pm - 8pm - Frogtastic

Start of the season - looking out for frogs. We are also building habitat boxes from 1pm - 6pm, so come along early if you want to build a roost for a bat before you go hunting for frogs!

Thursday 16th April 7:30pm - 9:30pm Toad-ally awesome

Hoping (or hopping?) that this will be the peak of the toad breeding season.

Thursday 14th May 7:30pm - 9:30pm Newtiful

Finally, as it warms up - we aim to catch the newt breeding season.

Regular Friday Volunteering - The Green Team

Join the Green Team at Skelton Grange Environment Centre - regular opportunities for everyone to come along and help out with some practical tasks on our site. You don't need any experience, just enthusiasm!

  • Please arrive from 9:30am for cup of tea ready for a 10:00am start.
  • Generally sessions run until 3:30pm unless advertised otherwise.
  • Tea, coffee and biscuits will be provided but please bring a packed lunch. Wear old clothes that you don't mind getting mucky, and dress for the weather.

Friday 24th April 2015 - Plants, plants, plants!

A spring day all about plants – we’ll be mulching and caring for some of our young trees, as well as working on the vegetable gardens, forest garden and seeding the new pathways with grass seed.
