We have a range of practical opportunities for people to get involved in volunteering at Skelton Grange - including wildlife surveys, training events and practical volunteer days.

Please see below for details and get in touch if you need any more information. We welcome new volunteers at all times, so please come along, but please get in touch to let us know if you're planning to come along to any of the events (there's a short registration form at the bottom of this page).

All events take place at Skelton Grange Environment Centre unless specified otherwise below.

Under 18s must be accompanied by an adult for all events.

Regular Friday Volunteering - The Green Team

Join the Green Team at Skelton Grange Environment Centre - regular opportunities for everyone to come along and help out with some practical tasks on our site. You don't need any experience, just enthusiasm!

  • Please arrive from 9:30am for cup of tea ready for a 10:00am start.
  • Generally sessions run until 3:30pm unless advertised otherwise.
  • Tea, coffee and biscuits will be provided but please bring a packed lunch. Wear old clothes that you don't mind getting mucky, and dress for the weather.

The Green Team - upcoming sessions and details

Every Friday 9:30 - 3:30 rain or shine! We will be running a range of activities preparing the site and veg garden for its autumn and winter season, including pond clearance, woodland management and looking after the paths and structures on the site. More information soon, and do call us if you want more detail :)

Saturday 29th November 11am - 3:30pm - Rustic fence building - a day of green woodwork!

We're putting up some new rustic fencing in recently coppiced ash - to protect an area of bluebells at the centre. If anyone wants to learn some simple green woodwork skills here's your chance!

Tuesday 2nd December 5pm - 9pm

An evening of great fun, food, crafts and excitement ....

We are showing the amazing film 'North of the Sun' - a really inspiring story about following your dreams. Its about 2 young Norwegian filmmakers who nine months of cold, winter in an isolated bay in Northern-Norway living in a cabin built of out of driftwood and debris, and surfing the arctic waves - A film for those who love dreams, adventure, environmentalism and nature.

It is also the AGM of the Friends of Skelton Grange - a community group that supports our work at the centre. Anyone who is interested in getting involved in Skelton Grange, or in what work we have coming along over the next year - its a great chance to find our more. We are electing new committee members so if anyone wants to stand for election now's your chance!

We'll also have some early Christmas Craft ideas for people to try ( get those presents made) and food for all - with the cutting up of the famous giant pumpkin!

Friday 12th December 10am - 3:30pm Winter Woodland Festival

The Winter woodland festival makes its return - a day of green woodwork, winter crafts, festive cheer and lots more!
