We have a range of practical opportunities for people to get involved in volunteering at Skelton Grange - including wildlife surveys, training events and practical volunteer days.

Please see below for details and get in touch if you need any more information. We welcome new volunteers at all times, so please come along, but please get in touch to let us know if you're planning to come along to any of the events (there's a short registration form at the bottom of this page).

All events take place at Skelton Grange Environment Centre unless specified otherwise below.

Under 18s must be accompanied by an adult for all events.

Wild Walks

A chance to head out with a guide, get some excercise and explore the wildlife haven that is Skelton Grange! Please check individual dates and timings and then please register your interest in these volunteering events using the form at the bottom of this page!

Monday, 13th July 1pm - 3pm: Mini-beast Bonanza

Let’s get bug hunting! Come and help us put out the pit-fall traps, sweep net the shrubs and survey some beautiful butterflies! We will be trying to find out which mini monsters live in the different habitats around our site and join the great British bug hunt!

Monday, 3rd August 1pm - 3pm: Small mammal trapping

A chance to meet who lives in the hedge-rows! We will be chatting about our native mammals and checking our small mammal traps to see who lives on site.

Monday, 10th August 8:30pm - 10:00pm: Bats, Bats, Bats!

A twilight walk to see (and hear) these amazing animals! We’ll discover if different bats are flying along the river and in the living in the woods around Skelton Grange. Please wear warm clothing and bring a torch/ headlight if you have one.

Regular Friday Volunteering - The Green Team

Join the Green Team at Skelton Grange Environment Centre - regular opportunities for everyone to come along and help out with some practical tasks on our site. You don't need any experience, just enthusiasm! Please check individual dates and timings below and then please register your interest in these volunteering events using the form at the bottom of this page...

  • Please arrive from 9:30am for cup of tea ready for a 10:00am start.
  • Generally sessions run until 3:30pm unless advertised otherwise.
  • Tea, coffee and biscuits will be provided but please bring a packed lunch. Wear old clothes that you don't mind getting mucky, and dress for the weather.
