The official launch of the new West Hampstead Green Gym took place on Friday 18th September at Minster Road Nature Reserve. The celebration followed a shortened Green Gym session at Westbere Copse during which our wonderful volunteers carried on with their great work in looking after and improving the site. The first downpour conveniently occurred at the end of the session and we huddled together, under the shelter, prior to making our way over, across the street, to Minster Road.
Amidst the young fruit trees, around thirty of us enjoyed socialising with like-minded souls as well as tasty food from the BBQ and live music from Paul and Sasha. In between the rain and under the gazebos, speeches were given by Giles Green, the West Hampstead Green Gym Project Officer; by Flick Rea, a London Borough of Camden Local Councillor and Dave Lawrence representing the Friends of Groups. Several volunteers received Green Gym t-shirts for their commitment to the cause and overall it was a fantastic event. What's more, we duly paid thanks to everyone for their continuing hard work in caring for our local green spaces.
The West Hampstead Green Gym will be running every Friday 10:45am - 2pm. Find out more information about West Hampstead Green Gym.
