Rebecca raking leaves on a sunny day

Hello! I’m Rebecca, a Volunteer Officer for The Conservation Volunteers. I first got involved with TCV Midweek Group in September as I wanted to spend some time working outdoors getting my hands dirty and learning conservation skills.

Before volunteering with TCV I had hardly any conservation experience and I have loved learning about and doing different practical tasks like tree-felling, boardwalk building and improving water vole habitats. It’s been great meeting other volunteers and seeing the difference we’ve made to some of Manchester’s green spaces.

I’ll be graduating from university in the summer so this is an ideal time to take on the role of a Volunteer Officer. It’s a great opportunity to challenge myself and take on a bit more responsibility, like leading practical tasks. I’ve been welcomed into a friendly and dedicated team and have been able to get a good insight into what a job in conservation can be like, as well as gaining invaluable practical skills and office-based experience which will no doubt help in my future career – whatever that may be!
