Parents and their children who helped refurbish willow structures

Thanks to funding from the Department of Social Development's Voluntary and Community Unit, the Conservation Action Team based in Coleraine have been able to offer family volunteering opportunities.

It's a really refreshing change to see parents and their children spending quality time together to do something special for their local environment.

We organised a family volunteering day with the Vineyard Church in Coleraine and had 25 families helping plant a native hedgerow on the boundary of their food-growing site. One of the parents also organised crafts in the polytunnel to help make it a really enjoyable event.

And at Ballymoney Model Controlled Integrated Primary School, many parents joined us and their children to refurbish the willow dome and tunnels at the school.

The good news is that we can do more of this over the next two years.
