Volunteers at Grove Community Garden

During the winter months, a number of new volunteers joined the team at Grove Community Garden helping to prepare the garden for the spring season.

Volunteers from East and South Belfast joined the team of regular volunteers for a number of interactive activities ranging from seed planting to digging over beds, as well as workshops in Healthy Eating and reducing Food Waste.

The new volunteers, all over 60 years old, were introduced to the volunteering opportunities through the Age Friendly project which was funded by the Belfast Strategic Partnership. The project highlighted the benefits of volunteering for older people and that they  are a great asset to any voluntary project.

The Age Friendly project also helped the Community Garden get online through a number of social media posts and the group now run their own Facebook and Twitter sites.
