Child planting lavendar in a pot

As part of culture week celebrations, Resurgam Trust and The Conservation Volunteers hosted women and children in the new Community Garden on the Old Warren Estate, Lisburn.

Children enjoyed working with a local artist to paint and decorate plant pots with a view to planting them up with their own edibles such as strawberries and lettuce.  The women and children also got their hands dirty planting up pots and hanging baskets with bright summer flowers to add a splash of colour to the community garden.

The event provided a great opportunity to welcome new people to the community garden and we hear that it has already generated a lot of interest amongst local people so perhaps we will be welcoming a few new members in the incoming weeks.

The community garden has been developed in the main by a men's group alongside TCV who run weekly Green Gym sessions in the garden.  The men have worked very hard and there are still some exciting projects ahead such as the installation of garden furniture, a new shed, planting up a wildlife friendly flower bed, and building compost bins.
