The Munsary Peatlands Nature Reserve, near Latheron, in the northern landscape of Caithness, is the location for a drystone walling project, running until 2 September. Join Master Dry Stone Waller George Gunn and TCV's Bo Couch and get some great hands-on experience of dry stone walling (or dyking as it's often called in Scotland).
The reserve is an internationally important blanket bog habitat, managed by Plantlife. The walling takes place each week between Tuesday - Friday, with some work on Mondays and weekends. Local volunteers are very welcome to join in for as long as they wish, and free hostel accommodation (meals not included) may be available in Thurso for those wanting to volunteer for 3 or more days in a row.
No previous experience is required and full (and free!) training will be given by local man George who is a Dry Stone Walling Association Master Craftsman with 35 years experience, and who has won awards for his work. If you are interested in joining in, or for further information, contact Bo on 07775 025837 or firstname.lastname@example.org
