The Conservation Volunteers in Haringey enhanced a community garden during August in Finsbury Park, one of north London’s largest parks. Volunteers cleared overgrown vegetation from footpaths and a pond viewing platform and restored the footpath edge with recycled timber.
Some of the footpath edge had become rotten over time, so sections had to be removed. These were replaced with recycled timber that was sawn to size, treated with preserver and then installed with sharpened wooden stakes to keep them in place. The edging was also extended to define more of the footpath.
The gardens are managed by The Finsbury Park Community Garden Project, the Secretary Hugh Hayes says; “The Conservation Volunteers always turn up regularly and add an essential blast of much needed work – clearing the pond, pruning the hedge, weeding and repairing the paths or whatever is needed at the time, we couldn't survive without them!”
Funded by Haringey Council, The Conservation Volunteers Haringey get volunteers involved in parks and green spaces all over the borough every Tuesday and Thursday.
The Conservation Volunteers in Haringey are funded by Haringey Council and have conservation sessions taking place every Tuesday and Thursday at different parks and green spaces across Haringey and everyone is welcome regardless of experience or fitness levels.
