In the Innovation category
Welcome through Wildlife enhances the lives of Syrian families new to Scotland, who have suffered the traumas of war, by connecting them to wildlife and nature close to where they live. WtW brings the families together to learn new skills and conserve their local environment within an innovative and inclusive programme.
In the Youth and Education category
TCV Scotland’s “Inner Forth Environmental Employability Project (IFEEP)” was a 2 and a half year programme which involved 58 young people from the Inner Forth area in the conservation of 26 wildlife reserves. The combined impact of enhancing nature AND providing accredited learning for young disengaged people is a fantastic example of partnership working and an extraordinary achievement.
The Nature of Scotland Awards are a great opportunity to recognise projects that are activity engaged in Scottish nature conservation. Given all of the great work that goes on in Scotland, I am delighted that the hard work of our staff in Scotland has been recognised by these nominations. Participants involved in both of these projects have played a big part in improving and enjoying nature in their areas. I am so pleased that their effort has been recognised by the judges. We are all looking forward to the Award ceremony and will have our fingers crossed!
