A few examples of the work we’ve carried out over the years and the benefits to people and the environment.
Health and wellbeing
The Conservation Volunteers’ target for 2009-13 is to provide opportunities for 500,000 people to become fitter and improve their mental health. Here’s some examples of the innovative and life-changing projects that are helping us to achieve this figure:
- Transforming a neglected area with Sonning Common Green Gym in Oxfordshire
- Food growing with the V Full On Group in Salisbury
- Getting active with the Doncaster Green Gym
People’s Places Award Scheme
Awards of £3,000 to £10,000 were available under the People’s Places Award Scheme, launched in 2001.
The scheme was aimed at community groups in England living in areas of deprivation, and disadvantaged groups – volunteers making a difference to their community by creating or improving a “people’s place”.
The grant scheme has closed, but the work was celebrated at a Conference in November 2005.
