Richmond BAT West

Join the Biodiversity Action Team – West

We undertake a range of activities in both urban and rural areas including tree planting, wildflower meadow management, coppicing, pond management and river works. We also do hedge laying, wildlife refugia, and footpath clearance. We create accessible green spaces through step and pathway building and improve school grounds for more biodiversity.

Each week is different, and you will be part of a friendly and welcoming team of regular volunteers.

Our project days are Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays.

We meet onsite at 10am and finish around 3:30pm.

Why Should I Get Involved?

Our volunteers get as much out of it as the local environment! Here are some of the many benefits they enjoy.

  • Meet new people and have regular social contacts
  • Have fun and learn new skills
  • Get and stay fit the eco-friendly way
  • Contribute to a better local environment
  • Enjoy beautiful surroundings

Who Can Volunteer With Us?

You don’t need to have any practical skills – we’ll help you learn.

Our projects are open to all aged 18+ (minimum age 16 with adult supervision).  But we also run bespoke sessions for schools and colleges.  Please get in touch if you want to know more.

If you want to develop your career and learn more about practical nature conservation, you can become a volunteer officer – and help run the project.

What We Can Do For You

The Conservation Volunteers connects people with green spaces.

Our teams of volunteers can tackle all kinds of environmental work from clearing out ancient waterways and ponds to building steps to improve public access to parks and open spaces. We will clear invasive undergrowth or plant new trees and hedges. Garden make-overs also feature regularly in our programme, whether you want a quiet spot for residents in a community garden or a pond dipping and nature study area in your school grounds.

Site owners – if you have a project, you think we might be able to help please get in touch.

If you are looking for a team building or community activity for your work colleagues, check out our Employee Action Days.
