Outdoor Adventures with TCV Birmingham
Nothing beats the outdoor life. Watching the seasons change, listening to birdsong, watching clouds drifting by and the hearing the breeze in the treetops. Add some traditional conservation activities and you have the complete outdoor adventure.

Kitwell Substation Project
TCV are involved in a large-scale project with National Grid at Kitwell Substation in Bartley Green. The project involves predominantly grassland diversification works and woodland management.
We are looking for volunteers to help us to improve and enhance the site and increase overall biodiversity. By getting involved, you will meet likeminded people, improve your practical conservation skills, and make positive changes to your health and wellbeing. You will also enjoy being a part of something and feel a sense of achievement.
Skills Learned
- Grassland management – training in the use of scythes and battery powered strimmers
- Woodland management – coppicing and creating habitats
- Bird Identification – learning to identify the birds on site by their songs
- Wildlife surveying skills – using wildlife cameras and participating in citizen science projects
- Infrastructure and construction skills – creating pathways and improving access
