Broadcaster and DJ Pips Taylor visited us at TCV Railway Fields, an oasis of nature nestled in Haringey, London.
Pips spent the morning litter picking to encourage people to get involved in the annual Thank You Day event on Sunday, 7th July.
Thank You Day is an opportunity to come together through thanking the people on our streets, in our block of flats and all those local legends; the volunteers, teachers, carers who go the extra mile for us.
Pips is celebrating the work of our volunteers who keep TCV Railway Fields running as a safe green space for people to connect to local wildlife. The reserve is maintained by our team who ensure this green space can also be a community hub.
We have been connecting people and nature for 65 years and we recently announced His Majesty the King’s patronage of our organisation. TCV’s work is incredibly important – 2023’s State of Nature report found wildlife species have declined by around 19% over the past 50 years. The report also identifies how effective conservation actions like those led by our team in Haringey and around the country are for delivering results.
Pips Taylor said: “Thank You Day is such an important opportunity to take a moment and say a massive thank you to everyone who makes a difference in our lives and in our local communities – from teachers to carers to volunteers.
“It’s also a chance to thank our natural environment and the people who look after it, which is why I was so excited to help with some conservation and litter picking with volunteers from The Conservation Volunteers, giving them a hand and saying a great big thank you to them.
“We can all get so easily caught up in our daily lives that we forget to express our gratitude, so my simple message today is that you go out and say a big thank you to the people and places that make a difference – whether it’s getting some friends together to say cheers for volunteers, joining a local litter pick to give something back to the environment, or inviting your neighbours to join a BB-thank-Q or a picnic. Get involved and get connected!”
Rebecca Kennelly, CEO of The Conservation Volunteers said: “It’s great to have Thank You Day celebrating the work we’re doing to protect our green spaces. We are proud to be involved in this important event and proud of our fantastic volunteers who serve all the praise for the brilliant work they do, opening up access to nature for everybody.”
Thank You Day
Thank You Day – now in its fourth year – is organised by the Together Coalition, and supported by organisations like the Scouts, Guides, the NHS, Royal Voluntary Service, the Football Association, the Church of England and hundreds more. The campaign has reached 15 million people since launching in 2021. Last year 1.3million people organised a Thank You Day activity.
Thank You Day this year is on Sunday 7th July. It is an opportunity for people to come together by thanking all those in our communities who go the extra mile, from volunteers to teachers to carers. Communities and organisations are coming together to host community take-overs, street parties, and local events as a way to say Thank You.
