New Lane Cemetery, Havant, has 2 new interpretation boards. The first board brings to life the cemeteries history and natural history. Information about the three sections of the cemetery explains its development throughout the years and their connections with different churches in the town.
Some of the burials are picked out and describe the people’s connections with the town. The second board explains to visitors why the grass is left to grow wild and how cutting it in the autumn benefits wild flowers.
Volunteers were involved in the research, design and installation of the boards. Local artists and companies were used to supply artwork and produce the oak lecterns and print the panels. It really was a team effort.
The borough council are really impressed with the design of the boards that they are discussing the idea of having boards produced in the same style for other cemeteries in the borough.
