It is with great sadness that we learn of the passing of Professor Tony Crook, and our thoughts are with his family at this difficult time.
Tony was Chair of The Conservation Volunteers from 2018-2023. He joined us just as we launched our refreshed Strategy, “Connecting People and Green Spaces 2018-21″ and had a very successful five years. He supported us in ensuring that TCV emerged as a financially resilient and thriving charity after the global Covid-19 pandemic, completed a reform of TCV’s governance, and initiated the creation of a more diverse trustee board. His research experience helped us ascertain the impact of our work so that we do our best to make a sustainable difference to our volunteers and to their communities.
Tony took an active interest in our work and visited sites such as Hollybush and Skelton Grange in Leeds where he got to understand the experiences of staff and volunteers. He opened the TCV Hero Awards in 2018 and our 60th anniversary celebration in 2019.
Tony has held many former non-executive and trustee roles in housing regeneration and education organisations including past Chair of the Shelter Trustee Board. He was appointed CBE in the 2014 New Year Honours for his services to housing and to the governance of charities.
