Professor Tony Crook, Chair to TCV's Board of Trustees
Tony has held many former non-executive and trustee roles in housing regeneration and education organisations including past chair of the Shelter Trustee Board. He was appointed CBE in the 2014 New Year Honours for his services to housing and to the governance of charities.
Tony joins us at an exciting time for TCV as we prepare to launch our refreshed Strategy, “Connecting People and Green Spaces 2018-21”. His passion for TCV’s work shines through and the TCV Leadership Team and Trustees are looking forward to working alongside him and drawing on the considerable experience which he brings to the team.
Tony says "I was delighted to be appointed as the new Chair of TCV and look forward to working with fellow Trustees and to supporting Darren York, our CEO, and his staff in delivering our new strategy. Most importantly I look forward to supporting TCV in the work it does making a difference both to our environment and to people’s lives. I have been very impressed with the way TCV engages with volunteers to help improve our environment and also to help them to develop their skills and their capacity to build careers and help their local communities to thrive.
As with my fellow Trustees I bring a range of skills and experiences to the role. I have had a long involvement in the governance of organisations similar to TCV, including chairing and being a Trustee of a number of national and regional organisations involved in housing, regeneration and education. These organisations have all been focused on providing affordable housing or on rebuilding capacities in disadvantaged communities. I hope my governance and other experience of these organisations will be directly useful to TCV.
As a chartered planner (sitting of the board of my professional institute) I can also bring understanding and experience of relevant national and local policy. As a leading academic in my profession and discipline I hope my research experience will help TCV ascertain the impact of its work so that we do our best to make a sustainable difference to our volunteers and to their communities."
