Our volunteer groups carry out a variety of practical tasks throughout the North East and surrounding areas each week. Join us to learn new skills, make friends and enjoy being outdoors, whilst improving spaces for people and nature.

How you could get involved
Practical Conservation Task Days
Our tasks vary with the seasons. In winter we enjoy tree planting, woodland thinning, coppicing and hedge laying. In autumn and spring we often maintain and create ponds, and in summer we are busy clearing invasive plant species from habitats and cutting/raking hay meadows. At any time of year we may carry out simple construction tasks such as building or repairing footpaths, fences, boardwalks or footbridges.
We run volunteer sessions between 9.30am and 3.30pm every Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday throughout the year. Transport from Middlesbrough and Durham can be provided, along with hot drinks and good company. No experience is required. Join in any session and start making a real difference to how you feel and help the environment! Contact: north-east@tcv.org.uk for more information or to sign up as a volunteer.

Key Volunteers & Volunteer Officers
We offer opportunities to get more involved with TCV North East by becoming a Key Volunteer or Volunteer Officer.
Key Volunteers provide valuable support to help us run our environmental and community projects. Although not a leadership or supervisory role, Key Volunteers can expect training and support to carry out the role including access to TREE – our online training platform.
As a Volunteer Officer we ask that you commit 3 to 5 days a week for at least
6 months and in return you will receive training in many aspects of conservation work. This includes learning practical skills, gaining leadership experience and training in first aid, risk assessment and health & safety.
Volunteer Officers play a key role in our organisation and have real responsibility and involvement in planning and executing practical volunteer tasks. This position provides an excellent opportunity to gain valuable work experience if you are looking to secure a job in the environment sector.

Community Project
We can support a range of projects involving young people and local communities by providing information and advice on getting started and finding funding. We work in partnership with many organisations such as Schools and Friends of Groups within the region – find out how we could work with your organisation by contacting TCV North East.

Corporate Volunteers

We can provide opportunities for groups or individual employees to contribute to their organisation’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) goals whilst enjoying a day of outdoor conservation activities, networking and strengthening team bonds.
This could be through a partnership agreement where TCV organises conservation activities for groups of employees in return for financial support for TCV’s charitable projects. Alternatively individuals are always welcome to join any of our regular outdoor volunteer sessions. We have worked with many businesses and organisations within the region – find out how we could work with your organisation by contacting north-east@tcv.org.uk.
