Get Some Credit

Get Some Credit is a training programme for 16-24 year olds to gain the experience and qualifications they need to compete for work within the environmental, landscaping and forestry industries. Programmes run for a minimum of six months, and we currently have two part-time programmes running across Scotland.

One of our most successful programmes was funded by the Social Enterprise and Third Sector Challenge Fund, and from October 2012 to March 2013 across the Ayrshire, Aberdeenshire, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Inverness, and Stirling areas.

Opportunities for young people included:

  • A diversity of training programmes supported through accredited qualifications with a focus on outdoor learning
  • Tailored mentoring support for each trainee during the programme and for the first year after completion
  • An Employee Recruitment Day where participants met employers and interviewed for existing job opportunities

New Get Some Credit Opportunities

We looking for young people aged 16-24 to volunteer in a part time  (2 days a week) environmental employability programme, running over a 6 month period.  Placements are available at our Glasgow and Stirling offices. Travel expenses are reimbursed and there is access to a generous training budget. The next enrolment period is November 2014 .

The aim of Get Some Credit is to inspire and enable young people to reach their potential within their community, overcome barriers and access to employment, whilst increasing confidence and life chances.  TCV Scotland will support young people to get to a stage where they are able to compete for work within the environmental, landscaping and forestry industries.

Training is diverse and may include NPTC Chainsaw, Lantra Brushcutters and Strimmers, TCV Scotland’s Employability in the Outdoors Award SCQF Level 4. As places are limited, we cannot guarantee all applications will be successful.  All applicants should include their referral agency contact details.

Get Some Credit Outcomes

100% of participants gained qualifications that would enable them to compete within the Environmental Conservation sector

100% of participants gained the confidence, self-belief and motivation to identify and pursue their individual learning and employability goals

45% of participants moved into employment, with the remainder moving on to volunteering programmes within the Green sector (15%), further education (5%) or ongoing support through TCV mentoring (35%)

The Get Some Credit programme was a great opportunity for our young person to gain valuable experience in an environment that he enjoyed working in. He has been able to find employment and not only pick up valuable vocational skills but also social and personal skills that will stay with him throughout his life. – Referral Agency Stirling
