Become a Volunteer Officer (VO) - Recruiting now!

Make 2019 a year to be proud of.

Grab your chance to volunteer with one of the UK's leading practical conservation charity!

We are now recruiting to the Volunteer Officer training programme. This offers a great opportunity to develop your skills, experience and training, giving you the upper hand to gain employment in the environmental sector or for your own personal development. Being a Volunteer Officer is a unique experience and is highly rewarding and we would love for you to join our team.

In this role, you would be responsible for organising and leading practical group activities; gaining experience in volunteer co-ordination and project management. You will also have the opportunity to get involved with other projects and events, including fundraising, educational activity days, publicity and marketing.

Hollybush has a large number of opportunities to chose from:

  • join the practical team, carrying out practical conservation projects in and around Leeds.
  • join the Hollybush Garden Team, helping maintain and the develop the Hollybush gardens and woodland. This will include helping on the Outdoor, Active and Well project, learning the skills required to lead therapeutic gardening sessions; working as part of a dedicated team to maintain, improve and develop the Hollybush Garden and assist in the delivery of short courses.
  • Join the Green Gym, helping in the delivery of outdoor activities designed by TCV to improve people’s health and wellbeing and make a positive impact on the local environment. Activities include gardening, conservation and walking. Green Gyms connect people with nature and each other, to do meaningful work and help you feel fantastic inside!
  • Join Time to Shine – The Great Outdoors Project to help deliver practical activities to people aged 50 and over. Share your knowledge and skills as well as learning new ones. Promote social inclusion and building community among older people in Leeds.

As a Volunteer Officer you will be trained by our experienced staff and receive formal training through The Conservation Volunteer training programmes. This will include training in Leadership, Health and Safety, Safe use of hand tools, First Aid, Midas, Safeguarding, and more. As you will be working with a diverse group of volunteers, training will also be provided in Mental Health First aid, working with people with learning disabilities, and Equality and Diversity.

There are also a range of short course available through Hollybush that Volunteer Officers are encouraged to attend. You will have a designated manager who will work with you to offer you support and to help work towards your development in the role.

In exchange we ask that Volunteer Officers commit to 2–5 days a week for 6 months or more. (There may be some flexibility in this between different roles so if you are unsure, please get in touch for more information.

If you are interested in joining any of these projects, for further details and an application form please contact us via hollybush@tcv.org.uk using the subject line ‘VO enquiry’ or give us a ring on 01132742335. Please let us know which group you are interested in (or if you aren’t sure yet we can help you figure it out!)
