Youth Programmes 16-24

Providing positive destinations for Young People within the environmental and land-based sector

Across Scotland, The Conservation Volunteers deliver programmes that provide young people with training, qualifications and work experience to develop the skills and confidence that enable them to gain and maintain employment, particularly within the environmental and land-based sector.

What can TCV Scotland offer young people?

The Conservation Volunteers have been reclaiming green places since 1959. We believe that looking after green places isn’t just about caring for nature – it’s about caring for people as well.  Our volunteers care for thousands of local green places throughout the UK and in doing so improve their own wellbeing, develop new skills and make their local community a better place to live in.

TCV provides “green classrooms” that offer new opportunities for the young people we engage, particularly those who have struggled to gain the confidence and skills needed for the employment market

Delivering employability for Young People

TCV Scotland supports young people to gain the confidence, skills and experience they need to gain employment in the environment and land-based sectors. Through our connections to the green sector, we can provide tailored training and experience that responds to different young people’s needs.

Opportunities we can provide to boost young people’s employability include:

  • 16-week to 12-month training programmes, including tailored 1:1 and group mentoring
  • Work experience in conservation and horticulture and community learning and development
  • Accredited bespoke training link to accredited learning through TCV Scotland’s Employability in the Outdoors Award (SCQF Level 4) and land-based Employability Programme (Level 3 and 4),  and other qualifications such as First Aid at Work, Lantra Certificated, Brushcutters, Woodchippers and Pesticides, NPTC Chainsaw, and the John Muir Award
  • Green Employer Days matching up employers with live jobs to young people who can fill them, with ongoing TCV mentorship as needed.

All our programmes are adapted to meet the bespoke needs of each client, and can operate at different stages of the Employability Pipeline and help move people forward along the Pipeline. TCV Scotland will negotiate competitive prices, or work in partnership to secure funding to support these services.
